Today is the Day You Decide How You Will Look and Feel Tomorrow
Do you ever find yourself less than motivated to exercise when you know you should? Does that strawberry Pop-Tart sound better for breakfast than oatmeal?
Well, join the club. Most of us find ourselves less than motivated to eat healthy or exercise on a normal day, much less during the summer months when we are vacationing every other week and out of our normal “routine”. That being said, studies show that the choices you make today nutritionally and physically, greatly determines how you look and feel not only tomorrow, but for years to come.
In order to be healthy and pain free, it is important to make sure you exercise and eat right each and every day. That doesn’t mean you cannot celebrate your well-deserved vacation or indulge a bit from time to time. But we need to know when to indulge and when it is time to get back on track.
Regular exercise is an important part of not just our physical health, but also our mental health. It is also one of the first things to go when we go on vacation or have family visiting. To prevent it from getting “squeezed out”, make your exercise routine sacred and don’t let anything else intrude. Set up a plan of action each and every day. Even when you are having visitors or going out of town yourself.
Here are a few steps you can take to help you stay on track during the summer months:
Eat a healthy breakfast every day.
Prepare small healthy snacks to have on hand as you are traveling to your vacation destination.
If you are having visitors for the weekend, make sure you prepare lots of fresh fruit and salads to have on hand so everyone can make those smart choices.
If you are going to a neighborhood bar-b-que, eat a salad before you go.
When you go to those family reunions, prepare a small plate of food and then leave the area. Do not eat in front of the food table. It is too easy to continue to eat what is in front of you and lose track of how much you have eaten.
Schedule your workouts daily…and protect that time.
If you are going out for ice cream, don’t bring the carton home. And skip the whipped cream and chocolate syrup.
Knowing how to eat healthy and staying motivated in your workouts can be challenging for anyone. Studies show having a plan of action can lead to greater success.
