Health Coaching Tip….
Someone recently brought my attention to a great little article in the Westerville Community Center’s winter brochure titled “7 Ways Fit People Live Their Lives” (from www.12minuteathlete.com).
These are great tips to get your health back on track:
- Don’t consider it a diet.
*Changing your eating habits to include fruits, vegetables and healthy fats should become a way of life, not a diet. - Find a way to enjoy exercise.
*You don’t have to follow the cookie-cutter exercise plan. Find something you like to do and it will become much more enjoyable. - Prioritize health and fitness.
*Once you prioritize being healthy, it will become habit. Even if it means getting up a bit earlier in the morning, working out on vacation or fitting in a workout when your life seems busier than you can handle. - Don’t expect to eat perfect 100% of the time.
*Giving yourself a cheat meal or a day every once in a while ensures
you don’t go crazy and binge on all the things you think you are missing out on. - Get a lot of sleep.
*One of the best things you can do to stay healthy and fit is get enough sleep. Sleep gives you the energy you need to work out, regulate your metabolism and repair muscle. - Surround yourself with other fit people.
*This doesn’t mean you should end friendships, but you should surround yourself with others who eat healthy and exercise regularly. You may even find your old friends will be encouraged to
be healthy too. - Stay active outside the gym.
There are ways to stay fit outside the fitness room walls. Try:
*Walking instead of driving
*Taking a bike ride, hiking or playing tennis
*Taking the stairs
*Choosing vacations that incorporate activities like hiking, swimming or walking. *Standing instead of sitting while at work.
